“Even after all this time, the sun never says to the earth, ‘You owe me.’ Look what happens with a love like that. It lights up the whole sky.” ~ Hafiz ~
We walk into the pharmacy to pick up some shampoo and there it is; an entire aisle of chocolate hearts and pink stuffed animals. Or we stop by the grocery store to buy some milk only to be bombarded again with cards for "my sweetheart", bouquets of flowers and heart shaped donuts.
It is February 14th and it seems every where we look there is a constant reminder of our past failure in love. Valentine's Day can be one of the loneliest day's as a single parent but, only if we focus on one type of love. It can be hard to not focus on the romantic dinner we may be missing out on but, we have so much more love in our lives than most.
We have tiny humans that look at us like we are superheros. We have the opportunity to experience unconditional love that is so pure and bright it could never be rivaled by another. And, we get to experience the ultimate joy of loving these little monster with our entire being, not just one day of the year but, every single day.
Because the bottom line is, as a single parent it is never really about us...it's about them.
So, spend this special day not focusing on missing out on something you don't have, but celebrating love with the most amazing and valuable people in your life, your children.
They are counting on you to give them kisses and hugs (and probably one of those dreaded bears holding a heart). They look to you as an example of what love is and will learn give to others the same way you give to them.
One day, you will no longer be single and you will have someone in your life that loves you the way you have always longed to be love. You will be able to share your love with them and the love of your children as well.
But, today you get to celebrate love with little ones who think you control the world. So, cherish every moment you get alone with them because one day soon, it won't just be you and them anymore.
